After deep reflection and discussions with my family, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the race for State Superintendent of Public Instruction for 2026. At this time, my family is facing challenges that require my full attention, and as much as I am committed to strengthening public education in our state, my greatest responsibility is to my loved ones.
While I will not be seeking this office at this time, my dedication to ensuring that every student—especially those who have been historically underserved—has access to a high-quality education remains unwavering. California is home to the world’s fifth-largest economy, and it is imperative that our education system prepares all students to fully participate in and benefit from the opportunities it offers.
I will continue using my voice, experience, and influence to advocate for policies and programs that improve educational outcomes, close opportunity gaps, and support students, educators, and families. My fight for equitable, effective, and student-centered education does not end here, and I look forward to continuing this work in new and meaningful ways.
To those who supported my 2026 candidacy, I am deeply grateful for your encouragement, belief in my vision, and shared commitment to the success of our students. Our shared commitment continues—it’s just taking a different direction for now.
Thank you.
